Kinds of verb-English Grammar
Verb Definition:
A verb is a word used for saying some thing about the activity of a person or a thing.
Examples:
Go, eat, run, sit, play, swim etc.
Saleem saw a snake which was moving.
in this sentence the word "Saw" and "Moving" are verbs.
Kinds of Verbs:
Verbs are of three main classes. Detail of each verb is given below;
Different types of verbs are given below.
- Transitive verb
- intransitive verb
- Auxiliary or helping verb
1. Transitive Verbs
A verb is transitive if the action does not stop with the doer, but passes from the doer to an object.
Example:
He killed a snake. (This sentence require object so it is a transitive verb)
They go to home.
Ali took breakfast. etc.
2. Intransitive verb:
A verb is intransitive when the action stops with the doer and does not pass from the doer to an object.
Example:
We sleep, They go, Ali eat etc.
3. Auxiliary or helping verb:
Auxiliary verb is that verb which helps to form a tense or mood of some other verb.
Example:
Am, is, are, was, were, have, has, had. do, does, did, will, would, shall, should, may, might, can, could, must, ought etc.
